Munich Opera Festival - Date: June 11th June - 31st July, 2020
The Munich State Opera is one of the most renowned opera houses in Germany and in recent years the metropolis in the south has blossomed into a mecca for opera music. The opera festival in Munich is thus the absolute highlight of the classical music world in the capital of Bavaria. In June and July of each year, the schedules of the different houses are increased and artists from all over the world are invited to present their productions to the public.
As early as 1875, the first festival took place, in which operas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Richard Wagner were performed. The enthusiasm of the audience was so great that the next opera festival took place the very next year. Nothing has changed in this tradition - only the number of visitors increases from year to year. Not only the program of the Munich Opera Festival but also the various venues are fascinating. The Art Nouveau Prinzregententheater was built around the turn of the century for the Opera Festival and has been the central hub of the festival ever since. This historic location - premieres by Heinrich Mann and Frank Wedekind took place here - offers space for over 1,000 people.
Not only in the Bavarian State Opera and in the Bavarian State Ballet performances of the most varied kind take place, as in the well-known Allerheiligen-Hofkirche, in museums and in smaller theaters. All of Munich becomes the venue for the opera spectacle. A special highlight of the Munich Opera Festival is the opera and concert evening on the Max-Joseph-Platz in front of the National Theater, which stands under the slogan "Opera for all". Here is an evening with classical musicians - all under the open sky and of course for free. Last year, around 12,000 visitors visited this spectacle. In addition to the opera performances, a variety of classical concerts take place, which move in all periods of music history. In addition, there are theaters, ballets, film shows and exhibitions of the fine arts - in Munich, all the senses are sure to be pampered.
